A cup of coffee and a quick conversation, and the seeds for Drive Your Career were planted firmly in my head. At the time, Kal Kajla probably had no idea what he set in motion. I listened to him speak about driver hiring and we both discussed the issues around it - 10 minutes that would change the course of my life. I decided I was going to make the experience better for both drivers and the companies looking to hire them. I started a recruitment company from scratch, and my first big client - and one of the best in the industry Transource Freightways Ltd. Kal took a chance on me with no experience and trusted that I could find drivers for him. 4 years later, drivers hired and as our companies have both grown exponentially, I look back and think today, WOW - am I thankful for meeting this guy named Kal. 

Dreams don’t work unless you do.

Starting Drive Your Career was arguably the hardest thing I have ever done. In the first 3 months I placed ALOT of ads, cold called and emailed so many potential clients (Sorry if you got spammed!) and waited for resumes to come flowing in. I remember getting overly exited whenever a notification on my phone went off - thinking; Is it a driver applying? Could it be my next client? Nada - it was only my favorite daily deals email from Groupon. I needed to learn more, work harder, dream bigger - be so valuable that people would have to call me. My mind raced, did I make the right move? Is being a business owner right? Should I do something else? Thought's of giving up crossed my mind and then it happened - the phone rang, a small company called Alter Enterprises in Cloverdale BC with 3 trucks asked if I was the guy who hired drivers. My voice cracked and I immediately moved to set up a meeting ASAP. The first driver I hired was for them. This is when I realized "The Hustle" was going to pay off and that patience was going to being rewarded.

Why the accolades? Years before I started Drive Your Career, I was lucky enough to connect with a recruiter that worked for the David Aplin Group, Melanie Wilk. She reached out to me on LinkedIn and began to tell me all about this amazing company, one that I couldn't miss out on the chance to work for (did you just think what I thought back then?!) Well don't! Melanie was spot on. I was quickly set up with the opportunity to work for one of the best trucking companies I have worked for, one that gave me the skills that I would later need to achieve the goals I wanted out of life. ONE of those goals is still based on what Melanie did for me - change the course of other peoples careers for the better when they need it the most.

That "amazing company" by the way was and still is Canada Cartage, truly a place to call home.
